Add a Heroku remote to an existing git repo

Working with git remotes on Heroku

Generally, you will add a git remote for your Heroku app during the Heroku app creation process, i.e. heroku create. However, if you are working on an existing app and want to add git remotes to enable manual deploys, the following commands may be useful.

Adding a new remote

Add a remote for your Staging app and deploy

Note that on Heroku, you must always use master as the destination branch on the remote. If you want to deploy a different branch, you can use the syntax local_branch:destination_branch seen below (in this example, we push the local staging branch to the master branch on heroku.

$ git remote add staging https://git.heroku.com/staging-app.git

Week 2-3: Battleship

Project: Battleship

Group Member Names: Saryn Mooney and Kiera Allen

Goals and Expectations for the Project (What does each group member hope to get out of this project? What do we want to achieve as a team? How will we know that we're successful?): We want to truly learn the material rather than just racing to the finish, growing as humans and developers while embracing the opportunity to pair with another person. As a measurement of success, we want to finish the project and feel as though we can explain our project and process to other people, as well as finishing Iteration 3.

Team strengths & collaboration styles (consider discussing your Pairin qualities here): We are both Objective-Analytical, Self-Examiners

Agile & Feedback Reflection

In interviews, you'll be asked about how you approach working in projects, and being able to describe how you utilize agile processes is a great way to help you stand out as a junior developer candidate. This reflection is meant to help you develop this skill.

With that in mind, please answer the following questions in your own gist about your group project:

  1. What have you learned about the use of agile vs. waterfall in software projects?

Waterfall is typically what most projects follow, even though it can be argued that Agile is more efficient and cost-effective. It's also easy to accidentally fall into Waterfall, even if the project has been set up to follow Agile, because it seems to be common practice in the world that many processes are created through a series of interconnected steps that build on one another, pursuing a big outcome. The benefit of Agile is the addition of multiple checks throughout each step and feedback along the way. This allows for edits and i

DTR for Kiera, Judith, Madeleine, and Danny

Project: Fútbol

Group Member Names: Kiera, Judith, Madeleine, and Danny

Goals and Expectations for the Project (What does each group member hope to get out of this project? What do we want to achieve as a team? How will we know that we're successful?): Kiera suggested we establish hard dates for things we want to accomplish using a github project board. For instace, we would like to complete Iteration 1 & 2 by Saturday at noon to get a head start on Iteration 3 and have in prepared for Monday morning(one of are due dates). Madeleine declared complete ITERATION 3!!! At minimum hit all 3s (meeting expectations) within the rubric plus a 4 (exceptional) in version control. Something Danny would like to accomplish is look for learning moments from the group or even teaching moments.

Sage and Kiera DTR Guidelines for Battleship Project

DTR Memo - Mod 1 Paired Project

Week 2-3: Battleship

Project: Battleship

Group Member Names: Sage Lee and Kiera Allen

Goals and Expectations for the Project (What does each group member hope to get out of this project? What do we want to achieve as a team? How will we know that we're successful?): We hope to practice more efficient time management by setting deadlines for each iteration. We will try to finish Iteration 1 by Tuesday (3/24), Iteration 2 by Friday (3/27), and Iteration 3 by next Tuesday (3/31).

Team strengths & collaboration styles (consider discussing your Pairin qualities here): We both do well when we have some time to go over the material on our own before we collaborate, and we also want to try to have a conceptual understanding of the information before we move on to the next step. We both value communication and clarification, so we will work to continue exercising clarity.

Article Reflection

What role does empathy play in your life and how has it helped you?

After reading about the 3 types of empathy mentioned by Goleman, I informally ranked them as they relate to how I naturally display empathy:

  1. emotional empathy
  2. cognitive empathy
  3. compassionate empathy

Pairin Survey Reflection

What is your greatest strength and how do you know?

Based on my Pairin survey results and an informal, personal assessment, I think my greatest strength is balance. In each of my Qualities, there is some type of language that describes a practice of seeking harmony. For example, the description of my Objective-Analytical thinking style includes the sentence "Analysis and reason underpin their more confident and self-disciplined behavior." I think this demonstrates my desire to give thought to my actions and expressions to strike balance. This idea is furthered by the descriptions in the other Qualities and by my Virtue Class: "Lover of Moderation."

How do you work best?

How I work is dependent on the situation. Typically, I take time with my work and try not to rush. However, if the project calls for urgency, then I try to adjust and work quicker. I work well independently; the fewer distractions the better. When working with a group,
