Steps to follow on your Mac

Download the ISO file for Mint Linux from here

Download the software for creating a bootable USB flash drive with the ISO you have downloaded, it is called Etcher. this link has the details

Once the Etcher process is done, eject your USB flash drive form your Mac (by drag and dropping its icon on your Mac's desktop to the Trash).. then pulling it out of your Mac

How to install latest gcc on Ubuntu LTS (12.04, 14.04, 16.04)
These commands are based on a askubuntu answer http://askubuntu.com/a/581497
To install gcc-6 (gcc-6.1.1), I had to do more stuff as shown below.
