Hi I’m MJ with iFixit and with our new iPad tear down fresh in my memory I feel like its about time that we seriously address the issues of repairability, device lifespan and Apple’s role in ensuring that its gadgets can be responsibly disposed of. First repairability: ever since Apple launched the ibooks operating platform it’s obvious that they have been trying to make huge gains in education, which is commendable, the iPad is an amazing tool for learning. But here’s the thing, if you are going to try to get iPads into the hands of 8 year olds around the world you are going to have to make things like replacing the glass easy and affordable, not to mention a simple battery replacement. As it is now, it’s tremendously difficult to disassemble the iPad without damaging it. And it’s about time that that changes. If device longevity were a priority of all companies, apple could produce a more easily reparable device. If Apple cared how long the iPad were to remain usable, they would make the glass easily replac
