Outreach & Networking Plan

As we've discussed, meeting people, forming relationships, and having conversations are the key pieces to getting your foot in the door at any company. It's important to be proactive in your approach to outreach and networking, so it's necessary to make a plan for what you'll try to further your networking.

Identify a contact you will reach out to by the end of this module. This could be a mentor, alum, or anyone from your current network. Describe:

  1. Who your contact is, why you want to connect with them, and what you want to talk about

My contact is Andy Cullen, we went to college together and he currently works as a senior dev in Denver. He works remote and I wanted to get his opinion on whether that's a good idea as a first job.

  2. When you will contact them by and how you plan to meet

Professional Story Draft

Professional Development - Professional Story

Hi, my name is Oscar. I have always been interested in how things worked, even from a young age. In fact, the joke in my family was that I was always asking questions, Why are tires round? Why is the sky blue? Apparently, no matter the answer I always had a follow-up question. As I got older I had a lot of more time to myself since both my parents worked full time. This curiosity turned into creativity as I tried to entertain myself after school. I tried to make my own soda once, tasted awful. Let's take apart the sewing machine see how that works. The excitement and pride I felt afterward was amazing. But more often than not it was, "I broke something, let me try and fix it before my parents get home!"

That inquisitive nature I had as a child never left but as I was progressing through my career it was slowly fading. I realized that I had fewer and fewer opportunities to come up with creative solutions. I didn't have as much time to tinker, to ask how and wh

Agile & Feedback reflection
1. What have you learned about the use of agile vs. waterfall in software projects?
- We were able to use a lot of the agile principles during our project. We held daily standups in the morning where we discussed what we accomplished yesterday, what we're working on today and where do we have roadblocks. This helped keep everyone informed of our progress and where we could lend a hand to help.
2. How did you and your group approach project management in this project (what tools did you use, how did you hold each other accountable, etc.)?
- We used the built in project tracker in GitHub to track each method that was needed to be created. We held each other accountable by having daily standups where we shared our progress. I also prodded the group to keep moving issue cards in GitHub to in progress to done accordingly.
3. What role did you take on in the project?
- I pushed for the daily stand-ups and to use the project board at the start of the project. Outside of that I felt that we all worked cohesively wi

Gear Up Assignment

Mod 0 Capstone - Gear Up Assignment

What role does empathy play in your life and how has it helped you? I believe that empathy has always played a role in my life from a young age. As silly as this sounds it’s helped me become a better person. When you have empathy you can relate to others far easier because we’ve all been in similar situations in life. From the mundane, getting off the elevator on the wrong floor. To the serious, helping a blind woman walk across a busy downtown intersection at rush hour.

How does empathy help you build better software? By being able to put yourself in the end users shoes you’re able to create solutions that not only benefit them but are also used. Too many times software is created or enhanced without this kind perspective taken by the development team. What ends up occurring is a product that’s delivered that will be under utilized or not used at all.

Why is empathy important for working on a team? I think empathy is one of the essential skills to

Professional Development Assignment

Mod 0 Capstone - Professional Development

What is your greatest strength and how do you know?

My greatest strength is my ability to communicate and interact effectively with others. I do this being compassionate and building a rapport with people. Being a bit introverted actually helps me build these relationships. I'm more inclined to listen intently when people speak and pick out shared interests between us to strengthen our relationship. I know this to be true because I've been successful in working across a broad & diverse range of people throughout my professional career. I can proudly say that's its the one trait that is most always highlighted in my performance reviews.

How do you work best?

I work well in both an individual and group setting and can adjust my approach to each accordingly. Throughout my professional career I've been a part of many collaborative teams, whether in a lead role or contributor. I probably do well in these settings because of the camaraderie of being a
