Data/API compatibility rules

Reasoning formally about data compatibility

Data compatibility in distributed systems is a problem that is often adressed in ad-hoc manners and suffer from bikeshedding. Developing a formal framework for reasoning about it is crucial to ensure a seamless evolution of complex systems and easy inter-connectivity of components.

Disclaimer

This gist talks specifically about backward compatibility rules. Intuitively, forward compatibility rules are the opposite of backward ones.

Applied Functional Programming with Scala - Notes

1. Mastering Functions

A function is a mapping from one set, called a domain, to another set, called the codomain. A function associates every element in the domain with exactly one element in the codomain. In Scala, both domain and codomain are types.

Death to Boolean Flags

Refactoring Booleans to Functions

Boolean parameters are a plague, responsible for non-composable, monolithic functions that never quite do enough, and countless programming bugs:

  • "Oops, meant to pass that as the 2nd boolean flag, not the 1st!"
  • "Oops, accidentally inverted the meaning of that boolean in the implementation!"
  • "Oops, the function isn't flexible enough for my use case, let's add a 6th boolean flag!"
  • "Oops, got the meaning of that boolean flag wrong, time to dig into the source code!"

All boolean parameters should be refactored into functions that effect the change otherwise encoded in the parameter.

Even though he was notified by menny people he never fixed his code so i took it on to... fix 1 line of code. This Fork may expand if i have the time to re-learn coffie and see if any outher code is broken.

The rest of this readme and the html code and scss is still the orginal by ruleb.

Description

Simple Dashing widget to countdown until a certain moment. Flashes the widget when finished.
